Loose Chippings ‘On the Road for Cancer’ Tour
We have all been touched one way or another by cancer, and the world is acutely aware of the need for funding in order to find a cure for this deadly disease.
It’s important to all do our bit, which is why Into the Vale is getting behind local band Loose Chippings, which is organising its new ‘On the Road for Cancer’ charity tour.
Drummer and band organizer Robin Baxter Simms says “We are supporting a great charity, with a great rock name, ‘Genesis’, which is the only UK charity entirely dedicated to the prediction and prevention of breast cancer.”
Currently 1 in 10 women and 1 in 1000 men in the UK develop breast cancer. Genesis UK’s aim is “to create a breast cancer free future for the next generation.”
The band, which comprises of Robin on drums; Dee Whitehead (former star of Emmerdale) and Janette Thompson on vocals; Tony Glover, Matt Keeley and Marcus Whybrow on guitars and bass; Ian Kilpatrick on keyboards; together with ‘Warthog’ sound and lighting engineer Mark Gittins. There are also occasional guest musicians and vocalists.
Loose Chippings has been playing at local events since its formation some seven years ago, and has raised thousands of pounds for charities as well as performing at weddings, birthday parties and other important occasions.
Starting early Spring 2015, the band plans to undertake a ‘tour’ to raise money for the Genesis UK Breast Cancer Charity and to support other local organisations and projects. After each gig the ticket money will go to Genesis UK, whilst any other profit from the event (bar, raffle etc) will go to the host organization or venue.
Robin is looking for venues to add to the band’s tour so, if you are an organizer of a local group that might be interested in hosting a Loose Chippings ‘On the Road’ event, please get in touch with him on 07971 519301.
To enquire about the gigs being organised please call Robin or visit the band’s website at www.loosechippings.net. The website is currently being updated and will soon have a list of the tour dates as well as some samples of the band playing from their repertoire. Their music suits all tastes from 50s Rock and Roll, through to the 60s (Beatles, Stones, Kinks), 70s (Abba, Fleetword Mac) up to the present day (Adele, Paloma Faith, Noisettes, Caro Emerald).
