Spring has sprung – at least, I hope it has by the time you read this. I am sitting in bed, looking out of the window at the fog and the frost, all snuggled up in my blanket hoodie with a cup of hot chocolate to warm my hands on this chilly morning.
Now is the time of year when many of us feel down in the dumps so we need to brighten ourselves up by thinking of nice warm things (holidays?) and perhaps dressing in bright colours to lift our spirits.
I have my hair coloured and have a wonderful hairdresser who is not afraid to try anything to make me (and her) feel better. I have four colours in my hair at this moment in time. My hair is short and the bottom layer is a lovely bright blue. Next we have a layer of red, then green followed by purple on top. The number of people who stop and comment on it is quite amazing.
The other thing I like to do is wear bright shoes. I went into a garden centre wearing a pair of green shoes – a waitress commented on the lovely colour, then said, “You’re the lady who came in wearing elf slippers just before Christmas.” Indeed I was – as they say, once seen never forgotten!
We don’t all want to wear bright clothes, but it’s good to find something to make us, and others, raise a smile as we go through life.
We wanted a little holiday to cheer ourselves up so have been busy looking on the internet to find somewhere suitable, and a trip to Norfolk for a few days is now all booked and in the diary. I haven’t been there for many years and as long as it stays dry I don’t mind having to wrap up to keep warm. The place we’ve chosen has a patio door that takes you straight onto the beach – hopefully with pleasant sea views. My blanket hoodie will be going with us, and in case you wondered, it is bright pink.
I guess while we’re away we will indulge in a few meals out. We’ll definitely be looking for an American diner. It isn’t just the food served in this type of establishment that we prefer, it’s also the music and the atmosphere which helps to make it a fun evening out. And of course, the attitude of the staff helps – a bright, cheery face taking your order makes the food taste better when it arrives. (I know it doesn’t really, but it certainly helps.) I’m hoping with us being by the sea, fish and chips will be on the menu.
Just writing this down and thinking about our planned break is cheering me up. It’s something to look forward to, even if I have to pack a hot water bottle along with my blanket hoodie to keep me warm. I’ll probably need to wear a woolly hat too, to enjoy time outdoors, but at least when I take it off, my colourful hair will give others something to smile about.
